-Like everybody else, I've been horrified by the situation in Japan. I wish my financial situation was better so I could donate something to the relief effort, but as it is, I can only be dumbstruck by the scale of the tragedy and enraged at the assholes using this as fodder for cheap jokes or dropping Pearl Harbour (!) references.

-RL has been a neverending source of frustration lately, as I've been considering a professional game plan for when my MBA ends. Going abroad seems to be the only viable option right now, but I'm not thrilled about it, especially since it doesn't feel like much of a choice at this juncture. I have a job interview next week, so we'll see how that goes.

-This is quite possibly the best thing I've seen all week:

Now, I'm not condoning violence as a response to bullying (though I'm not exactly condemning it either), but I can completely understand where that kid is coming from. There's only so much you can take before you snap (and obviously a lot of people agree, given that this clip made the kid into an instant Internet hero.

Also...that little bully runt seriously lacks some self-preservation skills. Did it not cross his mind that a boy who's twice his size might, I don't know, fight back?

Kid should have followed up the slam with a kick to the stomach just to make sure.

I DO condone violence as the correct response to violence since I had a horrible child/teenagerhood thanks to the fact that I was bullied for years and years and unfortunately believed my parents' advice of non-retaliation. I'm going to do things differently if I have a kid (but entirely not coincidentally I probably won't have any).

Actually, I condone it too, I just thought I'd put the disclaimer because it seemed like the thing to do. But yeah, I've dealt with a lot of bullying too, and at least as a kid, I tended to fight right back (unfortunately, after puberty, the boys shot up in height and I had to switch to sarcasm as my weapon of choice).

You know the really depressing thing about this story? Apparently the bullied kid was expelled and nothing was done about the little shit that started it all. WTF!

WTF? So punching a kid is just fine but picking up the kid punching you and tossing him to the ground (\o/) is an expellable defense? Seems like it's going to have the opposite effect. You're telling the kid that nobody's in his corner except himself so he'd better get his dukes up.

Someone just posted this link at a forum I'm following this story at:

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/bullied-boy-at-chifley-college-dunheved-campus-suspended-after-fighting-back/story-e6freuy9-1226021940542

So it's not as bad as initial reports said, but both of them getting suspended is still outrageous, especially since the bullying has been going on for ages.

I hate people.

It shocks me that anyone would respond to a tragedy like the Japanese Tsunami with racism and hate.

Is bullying, prejudice and hate the strongest force among humans? I kinda hate people too.

I can't say I'm shocked by anything people do anymore, but I'm still thoroughly disgusted.

I'd like to think it isn't, but it sure sticks out more than the positive stuff.
