ishtar79 -Can we keep Head!Brian? His running snarky commentary was SO much more entertaining than Harry's lecturing. I mean, okay, I can understand why he can't hang around from a storyline perspective, but he had some of the best lines.
-Fairly genius to revisit the Trinity plot in that manner, especially the way it tied in with Dexter's own fears regarding any potential darkness passed on to Harrison (the look MCH gave the kid while reciting the “son of a serial killer” just slayed me). Having Brian as the Wacky Ghost Uncle was just a sweet bonus.
-Ok, so the store clerk girl looked a lot like Rita, and seemingly had the same good instincts regarding men. Seriously, Dexter's line about his mother being murdered before his eyes would have had any sensible person reaching for the gun, and not jumping the guy, even if said guy looked like MCH.
-On the other hand, I enjoyed this no-inhibitions, extremely twisty Dexter more than his probably healthy. The dark humour is was the large initial draw of the show for me, so I was delighted that this episode had it in spades.
-Man, for a hallucination, Brian sure ate a LOT.
-Jonah seems to have bulked up even more, but he still failed to convey any real menace. His “Hello, Dexter Morgan” seemed like a laughable attempt at a little boy playing dress-up in daddy's clothes.
-Killing the pot grower/aspiring blackmailer was one of the most brilliant deviations from the Code we've ever seen, and it almost made it seem like Dexter going permanently off the rails was a possibility (especially given the way he kept blowing off Deb earlier, his most steady connection to humanity since S1). Of course it wasn't going to happen, given the format of the show, but I loved that he entertained the possibility.
-Brian originally being shown committing the murder with the pitchfork ending up in Dexter's hand certainly raises some interesting questions regarding Gellar and the acts he is shown “doing”. On the other hand, that kidnapped woman definitely seemed to indicate being aware of the presence of two men. Argh, the whole Gellar-maybe-ghost storyline is making my head hurt. It didn't help that with Brian around in this episode oozing charisma all over the place, it made the Gellar/Travis shennanigans appear even duller in comparison.
-That Gellar/Travis “I want to be FREE” scene gave me some very unfortunate slashy vibes.Adama belongs with Tigh, damn it!
-Deb had me scared when she initially kissed Quinn back, so imagine my relief when she stuck by her decision. I'm giving her lapse for her instantaneous judgement lapse, given what a rough day she's been having. Quinn is totally the kind of guy you'd fuck when you feel at your absolute lowest, and then hate yourself the very next moments.
-I have to say, Jonah not being a killer (well, ok, his mum, but it was hardly a serial killery murder) blindsided me, but the moment he uttered his story, I knew Dexter killing him wasn't even a possibility. The way he made his choices, with the snarky “Biney's mad” and running over the embodiment of his worse impulses (well, worse than what he normally does) made the scene for me, as did his utter dismissal of Jonah after he made up his mind.
-As much as I loved the way Dexter reconciled both his darker and ligher elements, I did groan when I saw Harry again. I'll miss you, Brian, you magnificent psycho!
