You don't need a reader! If you have a computer, the ASOIAF are pdf files (I just got through them a few weeks ago :) )
In my dissolute adolescence, I use to read through Wizard, the comic book magazine, from cover to cover including all the summaries of different comics in the last section while seldom picking up an actual comic. The picspams are bringing back so much nostalgia!
