I cheated and did 10...or to be more accurate, restrained myself to only 10.
Pretty when you cry-VAST
I have an almost irrational love for this song. And yes, the dynamic described is dysfunctional to the nth degree, but I prefer pathos in my song lyrics over healthiness.
People ain't no good-Nick Cave
Nick Cave is pure awesomeness, even if the OTT angst of his songs sometimes has the opposite effect on me and makes me giggle. It's probably just as well that I didn't discover him as a teenager, as there's something about his music that's custom made for Deep Teenage Angst.
Paper Bag-Fiona Apple
This song was my introduction to Fiona's music, and it totally hooked me at the time. It's very typical for her, with latent relationship!rage all done in that off-beat, sarcastic, Fiona Apple way.
Prison Girls-Neko Case
I love the whole Middle Cyclone album, and this song in particular has a gorgeous, haunting quality to it.
Personal Jesus-Depeche Mode
I was going back and forth between posting their version or the Marylin Manson one, but in the end I figured hey, Depeche Mode did it first. It's an awesome song by an awesome band.
Private Dancer
So I've randomly been listening to some Tina Turner recently, and I remember liking that song at the time. Not that I could UNDERSTAND the song, due to language/age bariers, but I still loved the video. And it looks especially amazing 20+ years later. Tina is NEVER dated.
Pure Morning-Placebo
Oh, Placebo.Their music always makes takes me straight back to my University years. And on a COMPLETELY UNRELATED note, makes me want to get high.
Pickin' on me-Skunk Anansie
I got into Skunk Anansie sometime in '96 (I bought a trufax CASETTE TAPE of their Paranoid and Sunburnt album) and since then, I've never found a band with that unique combination of angry, socially conscious lyrics, a great sound and amazing vocals. I liked Skin's solo efforts well enough, but it wasn't on the same level, which was why I was THRILLED to hear they'd released an album recently, after nearly a decade.
Push it-Salt-N-Peppa
Loved them overall, and this is one of the songs that's guaranteed to get me on the dancefloor every time (and the same probably goes for many in my age bracket).
Disturbed-Prayer
One of the many, many songs I discovered through fanvids (though I was already familiar with Disturbed). It's on my permanent “gym” mix in my mp3 player, along with others along that genre.
