By now, most of you have probably head about Amazon removing the sales ranking of all LGBT books (later expanding to include any books dealing with sexuality), but in case you haven’t, here are some links:

Amazon removes sales ranking of LGBT books
A constantly growing list the books excluded (WTF, Vito Russo’s The Celluloid Closet is there. I read it at Uni, and leaving aside how very far from ‘adult’ it is –if anything, its dry style makes it a bit dull-, it’s kind of ironic that a book about the treatment of gay characters in Hollywood and invisibility issues is among those getting ‘disappeared’).

In other news, I know I haven’t been around lately, but I’ve been so overwhelmed with RL (mostly studying with a side of work getting on my nerves) this weekend is literally the first chance I got to catch a breath (and be reminded of how the Internet is seldom relaxing these days). I really wanted to post my reaction to Dollhouse…I can only hope I find time to make a post before the inevitable cancellation.

well I hope you've been watching Dollhouse, because the last few episodes have been (IMO) as good as anything Joss ever made: right up there w/the best of Buffy & Firefly.
But I'm worried that so few of my friends agree: [livejournal.com profile] liluv stopped watching ages ago, [livejournal.com profile] biffsbabe has virtually stopped (she says she'll catch up), and [livejournal.com profile] talimama haven't watched any of it at all yet (of course she has a toddler and recently had to move).
*sigh*
Have they scheduled the test yet? Has your mum been visiting? I hope all is well!

They still don't like despite the awesomeness of the last three eps? That's a shame.

My mum just left a couple of days ago-she was here for two weeks. And no, they haven't scheduled the test yet. Some rumours about it (the announcement) coming up with month, but some other rumours are that the test could be as far September. The waiting's kind of killing me, to be honest.

Btw, I got the comic books! I meant to post on FOV this weekend and catch with you all, but I spent much of the unexpected free time...sleeping, actually. And watching the latest Dollhouse (I'm lazy!).

no no, not lazy... sleep is good! I'm just glad that YOU'RE still watching Dollhouse!

That sucks about the exam, it would kill me to be in that waiting situation too! I hope you managed to have some fun w/your Mum when she was visiting.

I hadn't heard about Amazon--for the past few months I've only been online for study purposes & haven't looked outside of my flist, really. I'm pleased to see a massive backlash from EVERYONE about it, at least.

What test are you studying for? Is this the entrance exam you mentioned a while ago?

It's the test I mentioned ages ago, yeah. I have to wait for it to be officially announced, and there are budgetary/political reasons it keeps getting delayed.

Given that it's turning into a PR disaster of epic proportions, I wonder if Amazon will be quickly fixing their 'glitch'?

According to this article, they're blaming a 'glitch'.

Yeah, a mysterious, homophobic glitch. Funny how that works!

Yeah, I saw that one - what a very specific glitch it is

*rolls eyes*

Yes, an oddly discriminatory computer glitch. Almost...aware.

OMG, Terminator was right: it's the Rise Of The Machines, and it begins with homophobia!

I wonder if they're colluding with the belligerent photocopiers, or if the belligerent photocopiers are just being obnoxious of their own volition. And where do the toasters that burn everything they touch come into it? Anarchists?

The Luddites were onto something, I fear.

The photocopiers have their own agenda, and there are many rival factions. The toasted are just nihilists who like destruction for destruction's sake.

I myself had the theory that the computers were "the brains" whereas the photocopiers were "the muscle", and that both were doing their own thing to prevent those damned dirty humans from getting any work done. I don't know, though. But I think you're right about the toasters, they probably aren't on that team. They're just crazy.

(not everyone's toaster is crazy, but mine is)

I just can't believe how much Amazon sucks right now. Funny how "adult" apparently means "anything that portrays LGBT in a positive light".

Books like a guide to sex for people with disabilities and self-help books for gay teens considering suicide have also been unranked.

Even on the even more rage-inducing front, a search on 'homosexuality' on Amazon now only turns up 'cure homosexuality' books. I just...what the HELL?
