-Enthusiastically embracing pretty much any frivolous distraction that crosses my mind might not be the most thoughtful and sober response to living in a country currently undergoing economic Armageddon (TV told me so, so it MUST be true. Also, the mountains of garbage piling up on my street after a three week strike of the collectors is certainly adding to the post-Apocalyptic ambiance), but at least it'll keep me from getting multiple ulcers. Just consider me Nero, playing fiddle on the deck of the Titanic, or some other horribly mixed metaphor.

-My application to [livejournal.com profile] westerosorting finally got through, and I ended up sorted in house Martell (though it wasn't a unanimous decision by any means-not that I needed the votes to tell me I'm all over the place, I can read old lj entries for that!).

-I'm currently re-reading Daredevil (ok, skimming a lot of the earlier stuff, either because of the hammy dialogue or the hard on the eyes art and colouring). But seriously, Frank Miller's run in particular? MADE OF LULZ. I know we talk a lot about Manpain in fandom, but nobody does Manpain like Daredevil. He spends half the books crying over the grave of his (latest in a long string of) dead girlfriend. Or a in a church. Or outside in the rain. Or lying in a dark alley. HE HAS A LOT OF PAIN, OKAY?

-Who else is watching Pan Am? I'm surprised by how much I'm enjoying the show. A majority female cast, unlikely but entertaining plots, and gorgeous visuals? Sold! The Mad Men comparisons are kind of inevitable, but apart from the period setting, it's kind of apples and oranges. Mad Men is a compelling, unflinching and consistently depressing look at the reality of the 1960s. Pan Am is about stewardesses in anachronistic haircuts engaging in around the world shenanigans and occasional spying. Mad Men is the superior show (in my opinion, YMMV, etc), but Pan Am is simply delightful.

Aw man. I am sorry you're having to deal with Interesting Times. I haven't watched Pan Am but I love Mad Men.

Maybe you should embrace lying in alleyways and crying? Or on a rooftop, or really just about anywhere? As long as you're not dating Matt I'm sure you'll be fine in the end.

I'm glad you're taking the current situation in Greece like this. Stay a-fiddling!

I am so glad you had your application through as well! There are so many people I know in that community!

I actually know very few people there, but that will hopefully change! But yeah, it was awesome both our posts got through in the same week. :)

It was so much fun to see you sorted, it's a great community.

My app had a lot of Lannister votes (in my character stamping app I was called "the consummate Lannister", LOL) but also some Targ and some Greyjoy - me, I thought I'd end up in Martell. :) This (http://greathouses.livejournal.com/219781.html#comments) is a rather good summary of how people sort, I think. I found it useful when I was going to sort my first applications and also for understanding why I'd been sorted into Lannister. (Not that I minded or found it strange, really. Heh.)

The community seems like a lot of fun, but there are so many rules to learn!

Thanks for the link, that's really helpful! I was glad to end up in Martell, but it's nice to see the rationale behind it.

There are a few rules, yeah. Though it seems more overwhelming that it actually is and the mods are announcing things you need to pay attention to. I joined during the last frenetic months of Game Six (which we won, yay) and it was so much going on everywhere - you've entered right in the beginning of a new game so it should be less confusing, hopefully.

Basically, just sort people and figure things out along the way. :) That's what I did.
