err, with all due respect, I don't think the characters have much in common (sure I could imagine Erik having a similar relationships to a teen similar to Spike & Dawn but - okay, actually I haven't yet read New Mutant, perhaps you got that there) but... overall he's a very different character.
If you wanna know which comic book character Spike is swiped off you need to read Hellblazer.
