Too Much Reading, Brain Melting..

Date: 2011-07-03 11:47 pm (UTC)
Hey I can feel your pain here (tho actually I'm not sure exactly why - Magneto doesn;t do anything particularly much crazier under Morrison than anyone else..)but I've just finished reading that run and -OMG - you cannot miss out these gems!! (I haven't got a scanner I'm afraid)

- X=Men 147 - p 5 - Magneto is as usual about to destroy the world (back to the old reversing the magnetic poles gambit, btw), the X-men are mostly dead (allegedly) and guess what, Esme (who is about 16 I guess, a telepath & thinks Magneto is in love with her, poor fool) announces that Charles is safely in captivity.

"Actually.. he didn;t put up much of a struggle after you took his legs away. What do you want me to *do* with him, Erik? Oh and he's naked too."

I mean COME ON!!! As random throway lines go..

., so the final page of 147 is indeed a full page (tho not full frontal) of Charls, naked in a bottle, (as you do, an with a slightly unfortunate pot belly though I think it's meant to be muscles in anatomically unlikely places) with Magneto going "So tell me I was right Charles.. tell me now or tell me later.. Because you will in the end.."

It's really kinda taking the shirtless BDSM thing to the next level..

(AND I NEVER noticed ANY of this first time round. Wow I really was naive wasn;t I?)

In 148, Magneto spends the middle of his supposed triumphal destruction of NY avoiding his own supporters in favour of mostly soliloquising to Naked Charles in a Bottle. I particularly love the line "Don't look at me like that.. you have no right to judge me." The desperate need for a hug is surtextual..

By 149, Esme makes a bid to drag Erik's attention away from Naked Charles and is shall we say, unsuccessful. "Love? " goes Magneto is tones of disgust, "Esme, in the name of sanity , do you think this is about YOU?.. "Are you insane? HOW COULD YOU BE ANYTHING TO ME BUT A MEANS TO AN END?"

So that's a no then, I guess. However, guess where he goes next? Yes, straight back to Naked Charles. After a bit of agonising about why Charles can get the child mutants to obey him, which Magneto has and is signally failing in, we're back to plan A, ie yearning for the Good Old Days.

"You know I almost miss our talks.. our struggles.. I was thinking about letting you walk free when it's all over.. when there are no humans left to save."

<It gets better. Really>

"I'll show you a world where there is no strife.. where no one has to hide in the shadows, quaking at the sound of jets overhead..
And you'll turn to me finally and say..

'It's really much nicer without them, isn;t it Erik?
You were right' "

So there you go. Magneto only really wants to wipe out every human in existence so he can HAVE A QUIET CUDDLE WITH CHARLES WITHOUT BEING MUTANT BASHED *and* finally get the last word.

Really, you couldn't make this stuff up..

And I haven't GOT my copy of 150. Arg!! But I bet it;s got some good bits too...

Hope you don;t mind this hi-jack but I had to share! I am I should say enjoying this series of posts sooo much..!
