(sorry late reply, had 2 days of Anime expo to do!) Halle Berry is guilty of ruining two of my childhood influences, haha. Somehow she was catwoman in the most recent incarnation, and Storm in the Xmen movies! Mind you it's not all her fault since Storm didn't do much in Xmen and the catwoman movie was just... kinda lame.
I wiki-d Angela Basset, I've probably seen her in movies but I'm not totally familiar. She seems like she would be an amazing Storm, woah. They should devote a movie to her origin story, c'mon. As much as I like Wolverine in the movies I get tired of so much of them (and the games, though that's probably just because of how overpowered it is to have healing powers/the difficulty of the old xmen video games) being about him. Or just how xmen movies end up being inevitably about the boys now. At least in comparison to how a part of the team/together everyone seems in the comics. (To be honest my first reaction to First Class was irritation, I try to overlook it for the gay but as a movie a lot of it bugged me)
I gotta stop myself before I get into it too much, but it seems like there's less badass female protagonists in movies than there were when I was growing up. Which is a trend that bothers me given how much that kind of thing influenced me growing up.
Haha Claremont's characters and dynamics are great, I was really surprised to find that one guy pretty much came up with everything I loved in xmen. I realize now the dialogue is a bit odd, but seeing as I grew up with it I just always went "well, that's how superheroes talk!" (though Wolverine certainly comes off as a creeper much of the time due to writing). Making Magneto a sympathetic villain was a great decision too, I never have liked fixed good/bad characters, and yay for moral ambiguity.
