Nah, it seems like a pretty understandable reaction to me if you hadn't read the books. It's hard for me to imagine the perspective of someone seeing it who hadn't, and how things would come off since I've read them way too many times, but you've pointed out that early on most of the women do come off as passive or even victimized. If you manage to stick with it, that definitely opens up some over time. The way Danaerys is being bought and sold and used was definitely hard to watch, but much easier knowing where her story is headed.
