Back in the day at Uni, I knew a guy who liked to show how "dangerous" and "edgy" he was with attention-whoring stunts like carving Satanist symbols into his skin and keeping a picture of Auschwitz taped up in his room. Even my generally clueless and impressionable 18-year-old self rolled my eyes at called him a pathetic narcissistic loser to his face (and no, it didn't go over well).

So all the shit Amanda Palmer's been pulling, like the extended ableism joke (disguised as shitty 'art') and the oh-so-ironic Klan comments reminds me exactly of this. Made even more pathetic by the fact she is NOT, in fact, a petulant teenager being offensive because she cannot exist in a world where she's not the centre of attention. She just acts like one.

I'm glad I never spent any money on her music, and this guarantees I won't. I'm not particularly inclined to support Gaiman's career anymore either, because while he not in any way in charge of what she says or responsible for 'getting his woman in line" (and I've actually seen the implication during the Evelyn Evelyn shitstorm-seriously, people, do not respond to fail with more FAIL), the fact that THIS is the person he's chosen to be with speaks volumes to his character.

The best response I've read to the latest bullshit

I saw posts on this on Network - I'm flabbergasted at the Klan comment. WTF?

I thought I couldn't feel any more contempt for her after the interview she did on TV where she blathered on about how she'd been ~crucified~ by a bunch of disabled feminists, but obviously I was wrong. I'm so fucking enraged by her that it isn't even funny. And feeling kind of betrayed--I realise that's ridiculous as she owes me nothing, but fuckdammit, her music used to help.

I'd wondered if you'd noticed this fail, actually.

I only read the transcript and that was bad enough. I value my laptop and wouldn't want to punch the screen in fury or anything.

I know there's been some critique of Lady Gaga's temporary disability in the Paparazzi video, but honestly that didn't bother me half as much as the Evelyn Evelyn monstrosity, or the shitty way AP responded to her critics.

I've never heard of her, but she sounds like a pain. How boring is slagging off Lady Gaga anyway? Either you like her or you don't, she's not pulling some elaborate stunt and duping the world into pretending she's a megastar. Lady Gaga does exactly what it says on the tin. How sad it is that people try so hard to drag her off her pedestal.

Now I'm off to google this Palmer person, and see what other stupid shit she gets up to.

Yeah, I don't get the Gaga hate either. Personally I enjoy her, but even if I didn't, I don't get where the vitriol is coming from.

As for Palmer's other stupid shit, well, there's this:

Hahaha, best post from the comments:

"In the end, aren't we all conjoined twins with a history of sexual abuse?"

Haha. I have heard of the Dresden Dolls btw. I have credentials.

I used to think she was moderately cool in a "making ok-ish pop music that people are inexplicably over the moon about" way. Part of me wants to blame this on Neil Gaiman but I suppose that's not really fair.

Heh, that's pretty much how I felt about her music. I mean, it's fine, but nowhere as good as people claimed it was.

I doubt it's Gaiman's fault-more her starting a solo career and this feeding into her pre-existing narcissistic tendencies. She has all the maturity of a 14-year-old...and the spelling and grammar of one.
