I definitely see the parallel (and yes, you need to write past!fic).
It was high time for Gaius to show some evidence of a spine. And his remarks truly cut, you could see it in ASH's face. I'm amused by the fact that were any other actor playing him, I'd probably hate Uther, but I can't get over my "Awww, King Giles!" reaction.
