-Brother Sam continues to intrigue me as a character. I have no idea where they're going with his rapport with Dexter-and a bit worried, since most of the people who get close to Dexter don't tend to end well.
-As nice as it see for Deb to have one morsel of truth about Dexter's past and the way it lead to both of them acknowledging exactly who this kill tableau (thank you Dt Mike), in a way it's more frustrating than Deb being completely in the dark, because she thinks they're having one honest conversation, but there are still layers of deceit underneath. And, of course, that knowledge is just one small way of moving a tiny step along the path that inevitably leads to the “Deb finds out” finish line.
-Quinn: still a dick.
-I'm definitely warming to new Guy!Mike. His attempts to keep things professional and weather-inappropriate snazzy suit (Barney from HIMYM would approve!) was a nice contrast to such sophisticated pros like...Masuka.
-And ok, his giving unsolicited fashion advice crossed a line, albeit in a hilariously phrased way, but I liked Debra's idea of professional attire. Not her normal fare, but it did feel like her. Unlike that necklace Laguerta slapped on her-Deb's expression was the saddest I've ever seen anyone be about jewelery.
-Ok, so the scene of Dexter comforting his kid at night was probably supposed to be touching, but all I could think of it was how much his sadface reminded me of him dropping the bloodslides in the previous ep, which made the whole thing unintentional comedy gold.
-If all that is up with Masuka's intern if that she's out to make a quick buck on E-Bay, I'll be disappointed. But hey, look at Masuka actually refusing the prospect of sex due to professionalism! Our little perv's all grown up now.
-Sam and Dexter's second conversation on faith was perfect on so many levels. Because yes, Harry is as close to a God-like figure in Dexter's life as he'll get-Harry's Code is basically the only set of principles Dexter ever follows, for the most part in such a dedicated and mostly unquestioning way, they might as well have been written in stone. And Sam's line about how putting faith in the wrong things fucking you up was painful, because while Dexter clearly thinks of the Doomsday Killer (coolest serial killer moniker on the show so far), there's this whole other level he misses, due to his dogmatic dedication to the Code-that a large part of his dysfunction is that Harry never once envisioned another path for him.
-Oh, Laguerta, you perpetual schemer. I'm not even disappointed with her, since I've made peace with how much her characterisation has regressed this year, but Deb should have seen this coming. Telling Deb to drop the script and “be herself”? In what universe would that be a good idea-frankly, I was expecting a lot more f-bombs dropped. Her meltdown was both cringe-worthy and kind of entertaining (“If you see something, say something”? What's next, “Just say no to drugs?”).
-LMAO, Angel named his car? After his mother?
-Ok, so I hate Quinn, but he's bearable in scenes with Angel. The whole stoner bit filled me with glee.
-Brother Sam's speech could have been so cheesy in the hands of a lesser actor, but Mos Def's restrained delivery was just right.
-I wasn't sure when I saw the previews with a scene clearly showing Dexter appealing to something for Harrison to be ok, but the way it played out felt really organic. And the show continues to inject touches of humour in moments other shows wouldn't. Dexter's God is merciful God! He gives coffee!
-I LOVED that despite the Laguerta interference, Deb actually came off well. Aw, Matthews even congratulated her in a language she understands.
-Maybe I've been watching this show too long, but I thought the visuals at the end were gorgeous.
