Diacon mini-squee
I'm back! I had a fantastic time in the UK, but I will say that not having Internet after DiaCon was its own special brand of torture.
The con was AMAZING. The panels were all very interesting, and I wish that I had time to attend all of them, but between meet-ups and sneaking off to check out Canterbury, there wasn't enough time. The best part was, of course, meeting people, both discovering that flist people was as cool as I had expected and meeting new people I probably never would have otherwise. Overall the whole con was hectic in the best way, with much discussion, drinking and general merriment-and ok, the drinking part was mostly me, which shouldn't surprise anyone who's known me more than five minutes. The whole experience has definitely rekindled my interest in HP.
I'd love to talk more about the movie, but it feels like I watched it a million years ago, and what I mostly remember is how fun it was watching it with a big group of people who also laughed their asses off at a particularly drawn out conversation about wands.
I might post some photos later, both of the con and general holiday pics, but right now I have to do a massive catch up andstalk add a bunch of people.

It's crazy how four days still wasn't enough time to spend with everyone? And yes, it's rekindled my love for HP fandom as well; it was never ever dead, but I feel part of the community again!
The movie.. I feel the same way you do! And that conversation about wands and everyone doubling over was just so much win <3

Gosh, that whole getting home to no internet… EVIL!

I'm jealous about the HP convention and I definitely want to see photos and other news about it (although I really enjoyed my Discworld convention: http://embers-log.livejournal.com/273523.html
and I got to meet Jim Butcher, and got the latest Dresden book: http://embers-log.livejournal.com/274327.html
so I shouldn't complain). I want to hear all about your trip!
Where did you end up staying?
What is Canterbury like?
Did they have a lot of HP movie costumes and props or was it mostly book-centric?
Please do tell us all about it!

I'll try to make a longer post about my trip in general, but shortly: yes, it was book centric, but plenty of people dressed up in awesome costumes and props, Canterbury is amazing, and I ended staying in plenty of friends' couches. It was awesome, albeit exhausting.

I will have to go to Canterbury one of these days, it is pretty high on my list of places I haven't been yet.

It was fabulous meeting you, and I hope the kitten didn't welcome you back with more claws *g*

God, don't remind me. I'm picking up the hellkitten from the vet (where she was staying) tomorrow, and apparently the vet told my mother she completely understood now why I was complaining so much, as the kitten is apparently too hyper even for its age. I predict I'll have 10% less skin by tomorrow night.

*friends you*

Yay, new friends! :D

The con was really fabulous, and meeting such fabulous people had a lot to do with that!

I was great meeting you! :)

so, did you pick up the kitten already? is it too much to hope that she acquired an admirer while at the vet's and that she has a new home now?

I can't thank you enough for the hospitality and VIP tour of Oxford. <3
I picked up the kitten-sadly, no takers, so I'll have to go with the less than ideal option that we talked about. She's like double in size and has turned into quite the hellcat.

Ditto. I had almost forgotten the wands hilarity. I need to see the movie again if only for that! (Do you think we could go when I'm back? I see it's still in the theatres.)

I will attempt to make a movie post later, but right now what sticks to mind the most is how you had to endure me and Mimine's very vocal "ew, Rickman" exclamations in stereo.

Oh man, I'm part way through a recap post, and it's just kind of long and tedious. Maybe I should do bullet points. Had so much fun, though.
I am still annoyed by Voldemort's spontaneous dissolution. WTH was that all about? The wand conversation was even better on screen than it was in the book, and it was pretty damn funny then.

I'm waiting until ariadneelda comes back to do my recap, so I can check out the photos she's taken too. But it's IMPOSSIBLE to convey the awesomeness of the con into one post.
Exploding!Voldie was both WTF and gross, what with little 3D Voldybits raining on us all.

It wasn't even original. The Corpse Bride already did it. Although if he'd dissolved into butterflies I'd have died of LOL then and there.
