Merlin 4x02 review

-That opening scene was surprisingly touching. On a slashier note, man, Arthur and Lancelot have to compete with everything don't they. (“I'll bring our boyfriend back home! -No, I will.).

-Even bees can't resist Gwaine's appeal.

-WTH, Merlin sparkles now? Did he get bit by Edward while I wasn't looking?

-LOL, and now Percy is literally throwing his body on top of Gwaine. Oh, supposedly to rescue him, but you can't tell me he doesn't appreciate the side benefits.

-We can add giant mole creatures to the “hopelessly attracted to Gwaine” list.

-Oh Gwen, who cares if you haven't been crowned yet, you're already Queen of my heart! Not only was her confronting of the royal council amazingly brave, she pretty much cornered Agravaine with the strength of her arguments. No doubt making herself a target to him, but at the moment, even he was forced to bow down before her Awesome.

-Man, they're really stomping upon the remains of Gwen/Morganna, aren't they? I'm done having any sympathy whatsoever for Morganna.

-I will say this for Morganna: since her change of heart, her choices in sneaking around attire have become a lot more practical.

-I honestly couldn't interpret Agravaine's expression as he was looming over Gwen. I didn't know whether he was having second thoughts about having her killed, regretting he'd miss his chance to hit that, or simply wanting to complete the sentence “you have a good head on your shoulders” with “...pity I'll have to take it off”.

-Poor Lancelot. It can't be an easy position to be in. On the other hand, he's still got Merlin. I predict the overnight stay at the cabin will inspire many a slash fic. The romantic guitar music during their talk is certainly encouraging that line of thought.

-I can't have been the only one having an immature giggle at what the “invisible” thing in Merlin was that the dragon saw, that's now there for all to see. Sure, Arthur, Lancelot, Gwaine, poor dead Will...Merlin is being gay with everyone.

-...”everyone” apparently also including The Slash Dragon. Look, it's not like I want to see the Merlin/Slash Dragon vibes, they're impossible to ignore.

-Awww, Merlin getting a knight group hug, and Arthur akwardly patting him on the shoulder with barely concealed happiness! <3

-Man, the poor boat man to the Isle of The Bless doesn't get a day off, does he? He should really join a Union.

-Colin Morgan was amazing in this episode. From his quiet promise to Arthur to make sure of Gwen's happiness (by trading his life for Arthur's) , to the way he steeled himself as he walked to what he thought was his death, to his sheer despair at Lancelot's sacrifice, he sold every moment.

-NOOOOOOOOO, LANCELOT! I...didn't expect this, despite what in retrospect was obvious foreshadowing during that conversation about sacrifice. Damn you, my silly happy gay show is not supposed to gut punch me like this. I mean, he'll be back. He's got to, right, he's Lancelot.

-I don't even know who's more plagued with guilt over Lancelot's death: Arthur, Merlin or Gwen. Or three of them were wrecked by the end of this episode, and in dire need of a hug.

-So now that Merlin and Gaius are wise to Agravaine's true colours, cluing in Arthur, the knights, Gwen, basically anybody's who might be at risk, would be the only sensible route, but there's about as much chance of that happening as of the show suddenly becoming historically accurate and never again using fart jokes.

Although I was surprised at Lancelot's apparent demise, especially because the show usually does the reset button thing within the episode, I was never too worried. I expect they'll find a way to bring him back for more angst in the Arthur/Gwen/Lancelot triangle department. But until then, I'll certainly miss seeing Lancelot and the fact that finally there was someone (besides Gaius) who knew about Merlin's magic.

Merlin!! I wasn't able to watch last week's episode, so I watched both two episodes last night. Pure Merlin bliss <3

Percy throwing himself on Gwaine was just so ♥
Agravaine was weird. Definitely. But Gwen standing up to him like the queen she's destined to be was veyr nice!
Arthur akwardly patting him on the shoulder with barely concealed happiness! who ever thought Arthur could be so adorkable :D

Slash dragon being Merlin's 'old friend'. It's so sweet! But then he did try to set fire to all of Camelot once o.O It's a good thing their relationship is as good as it is; Merlin's got enough troubles in the 'messed up relationship' department.

but there's about as much chance of that happening as of the show suddenly becoming historically accurate and never again using fart jokes. You're right unfortunately. Cue for a lot of Arthur/Merlin angst? Hopefully with some good comfort at the end! And... am I too optimistic to hope we'll be spared fart jokes this season....?

I can't figure Agravaine out, his motivations don't completely add up. He does seem to be motivated to achieve creepy sexual vibes in both his scenes with Morganna and Gwen though.

I don't know, just because they're BFF again, it doesn't make their relationship less messed up (because, like you said, almost burning Camelot. Also because technically Merlin can compel him to do whatever he wants.

And... am I too optimistic to hope we'll be spared fart jokes this season...

...you might be? The humour on the show, not exactly highbrow.

If Lancelot doesn't come back I'll be ANGRY

I don't even think that's a possibility. I mean...it's LANCELOT.

I haven't been able to find this anywhere... all my usual sites for British TV are letting me down....
(although Downton Abbey has been up, so that is good! LOL).

:(

If you're interested, I can suggest some alternatives on lj.

I did find a site (http://tv-site.net/) and I've seen the 1st episode and just starting the 2nd now...
it seems to be starting off really well
(I also just saw Dexter's 2nd episode and I think this season looks awesome!)

thanks though
