Belated Game of Thrones 1X02 thoughts

-I got an unholy amount of glee out of Tyrion bitchslapping Joffrey.

-Tyrion continues to get the best lines, whether it's the inappropriate and hilarious or the thoughtful ones.

-Cersei, you magnificent bitch. Her speech to Catelyn even had me half-convinced of its sincerity, even as I knew she hoped for Bran never to wake up.

-Jamie seems to have mastered the subtle art of not-quite-openly mocking someone. He made Jon Snow come off as about two feet tall in their scene, even though I'm not sure what all the undermining was about. Maybe Jamie's already tired of Jon's emo bastardangst. Or maybe that's just how he gets his kicks.

-Jon's scene with Arya reminded me why I liked the character in the first place. The cute was just made of cute, what with Arya's thoughts on packing, and NYMERIA, and the hug! <33333

-I felt so much for Catelyn in this one, even as she managed to find a moment to hate on Jon through her grief (God, can you imagine all those years of meals with that family. Awkward.)

-During what was supposed to be a touching scene of goodbye between Jon and Robb, I couldn't concentrate on their Subtle Manpain because I was too busy wondering if Robb gets his guyliner from the same shop as Drogo. On the other hand, I can now tell him and Jon apart, which is progress.

-I liked the scene between Robert and Nedd. They're doing a great job in portraying their history and their friendship, even as it's apparent that Robert's crown has stripped away some of the ease of their interaction. I'm definitely intrigued about Jon's mother (though Ned is definitely not being too hard on himself. Robert obviously hasn't noticed the clusterfuck Ned's indiscretion has caused at the House of Stark).

-...so I guess we're sticking with the rapey version of Drogo/Daenerys then? Because the books just weren't rapey enough as they were?

-A bit ironic talking about the cost of the royal visit above Bran's unconscious body.

-It's hard to decide who was more viscious in their defense of Bran: Catelyn, or his direwolf.

-It's been a while since I read Game Of Thrones, but I'm pretty sure Catelyn's CSI:Winterfell scene wasn't in them. Either way it moved the plot along and got Catelyn into the political intrigued side of things, so I'm not complaining.

-Could the scene between Dany and the servant girl be any more femslashy?

-Why hello, Jason Momoa's ass.

-Ok, so the second Drogo/Dany sex scene was hot, even if it requires some serious handwaving of what came before.

-I'm really liking the Hound so far, though it was hard to find anybody else creepy in a scene where Joffrey is in.

-...which is not helped by him clearly trying to get Sansa drunk.

-Characters who gave Joffrey some much-needed physical punishment in this episode: Tyrion, Arya and Nymeria. And even though the latter two led to dire consequences, it was satisfying as it happened.

-Arya sending Nymeria is the WORST THING.

-I barely had time to get mad at Sansa for lying for that piece of shit Joffrey before my heart broke for her. Lady. :(

-This is why Ned is the most honorable character in the series. As hard to watch him killing Lady was, it was infinitely better than letting the butcher do it.

I felt really sorry for Sansa - she was put in a terrible position of having to lie to her future husband and mother-in-law (who is quite obviously vindictive to the max) or having to offend them horribly. I think she did the best that she could under the circumstances - and then was terribly punished for it. Poor Sansa, poor Arya. I think Tyrion needs to slap Joffrey a *lot* more.

Tyrion = Win.

"-Why hello, Jason Momoa's ass"

Indeed!

Poor Lady :(

Right now I'm in camp I Hate The Lannisters, All Of Them, but I'm definitely hooked on the show :D I've also picked up the books, but I've tried to read the first one before and gave up for reasons I don't remember. Will try to stick with it this time :p

Ha, I could watch this gif ALL DAY.

Oh, I hated the Lannisters (minus Tyrion, who at least was interesting) in the books too, I'm just enjoying the hell out of the actors. Not that I would say I "enjoy" anything about the Joffrey actor's performance, but I definitely want to smash his head against a pavement until his brains spill out whenever he's onscreen, so, um...good job?

Well I've done a 180... I really loved the second episode (I'm particularly in love with all the wolves)... so I'm definitely on board for this series!

Yay! I'm glad you came around.

I never normally say this but I wish they'd just cut out the sex completely. I realise it's HBO and they enjoy their softcore porn, but I am just not down with it in this show.

possibly because it needs more Atia, idk!

[identity profile] ishtar79.livejournal.com 2011-04-28 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I don't mind the sex in other shows, but it's too much here.

Everything would be better with more Atia.

Everything would be better with more Atia.

Trufax, that. Trufax.

Every time I see Arya I love that actress more. So perfect.

Poor Lady. Poor, poor Lady.:-(

I know, that little girl is amazing. So perfectly cast.

I'm loving the show but I must admit I couldn't watch the end of the episode - I knew it'd make me cry /wuss

I only peeked through my fingers, so I know what you mean.

Oh, god, the wolves were heartbreaking. Joffrey makes me mad just thinking about him. Cersei, on the other hand is phenomenal even as I want to smack her.

The Dany/Drogo stuff is weird. I get that she's being sold off and it's really screwed up even as it's vaguely socially acceptable in their world. But that is one thing I liked better in the books. It was still creepy and something that is Not OK in our moral code, but you could tell he was trying to communicate care to her, in his own way. This seems to be making it more about her using Powers of Sex to get him to love and listen to her, which is a little off.

If I still wrote fic, I would totally write some Cersei/Atia. But I cracked out of fandom writing stuff like that.

I honestly don't know what the message is in Dany's storyline. I think it's still easier for those of us who've read the books and at least have that context to go from, but new viewers must be especially confused. Because what they've got now is essentially a "how to get your rapist to love you" story.

Someone somewhere expressed annoyance at Jon's question about who his mom was and whether or not she loved him was basically met by Ned's "Err... Winter is coming!"

Now I want to use that response to deflect every uncomfortable conversation anyone tries to have with me.

[identity profile] ishtar79.livejournal.com 2011-04-30 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)
ROFL. Now I simply have to steal this excuse sometime myself.

Poor Jon. Nobody gives a crap about Important Questions.
