This is why we can’t have nice things!

I was channel surfing when I saw a Firefly episode in one of the (smaller) Greek channels. I was so excited over it I actually called [livejournal.com profile] ariadneelda. You see, Greek TV is absolutely useless when it comes to importing the decent show. They’ve aired random episodes of such shows like Angel, Queer as Folk and Doctor Who at really convenient hours like 2AM, often out of order, a few years too late and rarely a full season: and of course they neglect to do the slightest bit of promoting. Yet perplexingly, we’ve gotten the full series of Seventh Heaven, ER and the Gilmore Girls.

About half an hour later, [livejournal.com profile] ariadneelda called me to tell me they were apparently showing a second episode. I switched the TV back on, and sat confused a couple of minutes, wondering why I was seing the opening shot of the Serenity episode with the new characters bording the ship, when I’d been watching a scene of the characters discussing what to do with River’s discovery earlier, when it hit me: those bozos in Greek TV somehow managed to purchase the two parts of the series pilot…and proceeded to air them out of order. FAIL, Greek TV, EPIC FAIL!

OMG, that really is too funny! Of course I have to be grateful to Greek TV because when I was traveling in Greece I actually saw Amber Benson playing an epileptic in her first ever role... it was actually quite a good movie; so when I met her a few weeks later at a Buffy convention I could even tell her that she was on Greek TV!

Oh, they play good movies occasionally, especially on state TV (fewer commercials). And they do shows like House, Lost, Desperate Housewives and more in normal order, AND they don't dub. But when it comes to genre TV...forget it.

Okay, that is classic.

I actually called them, and just got a guy who told me he just played whatever they gave him. I didn't hassle him, because since he's all alone at 1AM, I'm betting unpaid intern, which? I can so relate.

But wait, there's more: AriadneElda actually kept watching, and they just cut off after some commercials and started showing a telesales show.

That is impressive fail o_O

I started watching that because there was nothing else on TV, but then I fell asleep. HOW FUNNY!!!!

Good to know not only the German TV screws up when it comes to airing TV shows. Well, it's not good at all, it only shows that the people who are responsible for these things are not interested enough to do their job properly, which is sad. :(

Happy new year, sweetie! Hope everything is all right with you!

Happy New Year, hon! I'm doing ok, though freezing my ass off (yes, Greece can get cold, don't laugh!).

I feel like we haven't spoken in ages-how have YOU been?

[identity profile] ackonrad.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I froze my ass off on New Year's Eve. Now it's 10 degrees up again.

Well, I'm writing my dissertation (or trying to - as it seems, I'll have to complete it in a record time, because I'm so not in the mood for it right now) and trying to figure out how to pay my bills, as always. My internship is badly paid and ends on 30-th January, so I've got to look for a job for February... At least I finally got the full working licence for Germany and there are no restrictions anymore. My chances are better.

What about you? Still on a job hunt? Hopefully not. *huggles*

[identity profile] ishtar79.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Good luck, both with the dissertation and job hunt.

I'm still studying for that entrance exam-it should be in February. I got a part-time job though, teaching English to college students, and next semester I'll take on even more hours, in case I don't pass the exam (because the competition is insane).

[identity profile] ackonrad.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks, I'll need it. :(

Good luck for you, too - I'll keep my fingers crossed for your exam in February. I have to hand in my dissertation in February, too, so it seems it will be an important month for both of us.

I plan to spend March in Bulgaria. Any chance you'll be there?

[identity profile] ishtar79.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably not March, sorry. I'll have to work then. :(
