Merlin 4x04 thoughts
-Nobody can give the shifty/intense/crazy stare like James Callis. His character definitely had some Baltar-like qualities (when Gaius was going on about how he couldn't be trusted, my reaction was “Well duh, he's Baltar) with enough differences to keep things interesting -for one thing, he seemed to be doing the physically intimidating thing better than Baltar ever did, which is impressive, since he is a tiny, tiny man. The Batman voice was kind of hilarious though, especially in his final confrontation with Merlin. I kept expecting him to break into a cough.
-The Arthur losing his trousers and Merlin physically wrestling him to the ground scene had me in stiches-and the Court's perplexed reactions where the cherry on the cake. Note to Merlin writers: this is how you do silly comedy (pleasepleaseplease, no more fart jokes!).
-For a second I thought Merlin was going to go hungry in that forest scene, which seemed unusually cruel and OOC for Arthur and the knights, but of course they were messing with him. I love those bonding scenes.
-Arthur jumping into the path of the arrows to give Leon the necessary distraction to rescue Percy shows why he's already a far superior King than Uther's ever been.
-How much do I love it when Merlin doesn't bother to hide his power (and I mean intentionally, as opposed to his hilarious concept of “stealth”)? Colin's delivery of the “last dragonlord” line was perfection.
-Ok, so where exactly was Merlin hiding the egg when he ran into Arthur and the knights?
-Aw, adorable baby dragon! My heart! And Colin's expression of wonder was just as cute.
-Next week looks interesting, and hopefully there will be some Gwen and in that one (ideally, with actual lines).

It sounded like he said "lust dragonlord" and I was like "aw yeah".

Yes, and despite my "YAY BALTAR!" I never felt as if I was seeing Baltar in another show. He was distinctly a whole different character. :)
The different voice and hair probably helped a bit, too.The kind-of-half-naked A/M wrestling had me torn between almost-embarrassment, laughing, and glee at the slashy fanservice.
Apparently they cut some Gwen scenes from the previous episode - and I wonder what other scenes have been cut all along that could have been great for the Arthur/Gwen relationship development.

Did they get new writers or producers? I cannot believe how much better this season is than the previous 3.
