Random TV musings

YAY, Starbuck Katee Sachoff! KS being crazed and covered in blood and hot! KS with in the slicked-back 'do, wearing decked out in black. KS kicking ass and smoking a cigarette! KS having random bathroom femslashy vibes with whatesherface! *dies happy*

And the rest? Oh, I suppose other stuff happened (the CHIEF!!!111!!). I *suppose* there was a plot. Kind of. And the main character…well, at least she’s pretty? The dialogue was hilarious, for all the wrong reasons (“I think it’s cool that a girl can do that”? Someone needs to send those writers a few seasons of Xena, La Femme Nikita, and Buffy-to start. There’s remaking a seventies show, and then there’s trying to copy/paste the era’s gender politics. Just STOP). I’m feeling generous, so I’ll dub the show mediocre. It could always improve. But who cares? I’m just happy to bask in the awesomeness of KS.

Well, it wasn’t bad per se, and definitely an improvement over last season’s finale. A few random thoughts:

-I kind of expected both Petrelli brothers to make it. I was, however, surprised by the amnesia ,and not in a good way, and by scruffy/jaded/heavily depressed Nathan ,in a very, very good way-who knew this change would be so sexy? Oh wait, I actually did know that (also see: Wesley, Angel S3).

-It’s official: I’m bored with Hiro. I practically dozed off in his scenes *hides from stamped of angry Hiro fans*

-And speaking of boring, nobody has that market coined quite like Mohinder. Good thing he’s pretty, really.

-On the topic of Matt…oh God, I actually do like this show. I don’t want to turn this into a bitchfest. So I’ll say it’s nice of him to play daddy. And using his ability to cheat at cards? Dude, I totally would.

-Like I said, I like the show just *fine*, but it’s yet to grab me in a “OMG, next week can’t come soon enough, now where are the fics/vids/icons” way, and I think I’ve figured out why. There’s not a single character that truly captivates me-I like the Petrelli brothers, Claire, Mika (so weird, a TV kid being non-annoying), Hiro in small doses, and even Nikki and Mohinder have their moments, but there’s none that grabs my attention.

The closest I come to that is with Mr Benett. In an episode that I found vaguely entertaining, his scenes were the only ones to make me sit up and take notice. In fact, by the time he fully reverted to his scary glory in the final scene with the manager, I may have squeed a little bit. And I love his new dynamic with Claire, now that the cat is out of the bag (love the fact that they both *still* keep secrets even more)

I’m kind of underwhelmed with this TV season. With Veronica cancelled, and BSG aeons away, there’s no show I’m feel like getting fannish over. I still watch House, but I don’t really think about it after the episode is done, and I refuse to take shows like Grey’s or Ugly Betty seriously. Oh, and there’s Weeds I suppose, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone on the flist mention it. Hm, perhaps I need new shows. Can someone rec me one?

But hey, there’s still Dexter coming up. The writers have better not screw this season up, it’s all I’m saying. If anything, the show provides some *excellent* torture tips. (Joke, people, I’m by no means advocating violence and/or death against TV writers. Unless it’s Marti Noxon, in which case, go crazy!)

Mohinder is a classic dumb blonde in a male Indian body. Think about it. And Nathan Petrelli is still my boyfriend.

I love Weeds. So does [livejournal.com profile] jamoche.

Hee, it all makes perfect sense! It explains why I don't care one bit for Mohinder, despite the fact he's blindingly pretty.

Weeds owns! Are you enjoying this season?

[identity profile] ataniell93.livejournal.com 2007-09-29 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! I can't believe UTurn died so soon though. Just when I was starting to kind of like him.

He was growing on me too. It was almost worth it for the super-tacky funeral and Nancy's "he taught me how to driveby" comment.

I thought the new Heroes episode was the most boring one I've seen yet. And I've already bitched about the car ads.

[identity profile] ishtar79.livejournal.com 2007-09-30 08:12 am (UTC)(link)
It was definitely on the 'meh' side. They had months to put it together, WTF?

[identity profile] go-back-chief.livejournal.com 2007-09-30 10:43 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's definitely up there, if nothing else. It's a little worrying that it's the season's premier.

[identity profile] embers-log.livejournal.com 2007-09-30 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
I was disappointed that Veronica Mars Kristen Bell wasn't in the Heroes' season premier... I'm expecting her to liven things up (although I think I enjoyed it more than you (I'm still loving Hiro, in fact after seeing all the actors at Comic Con I'm pretty much loving them all).

I might recommend Moonlight although I know no one else will... Logan (Veronica's boyfriend Logan) aka Jason Dohring is pretty funny as a 400 year old vampire who is paranoid because he remembers the days of the villagers threatening him with torches & pitchforks. At any rate [livejournal.com profile] liluv and [livejournal.com profile] biffsbabe and I have all decided that we may be sappy, but we like the looks of this Vampire detective and his girl friend (David Tennant's RL girl friend who was the one w/the fireplace: Sarah Myles).

Personally I am loving Chuch and Reaper, but I am very keen on the comedies...these are both loser geek boy gets 'powers' and laughs.

Oh and I'm w/you on the Katee Sachoff love! I got to see her on two panels at Comic con (BSG and Bionic Woman) and she is wonderful.

[identity profile] ishtar79.livejournal.com 2007-09-30 08:14 am (UTC)(link)
You're lucky to have seen the Heroes cast. And like I said, it's not that I dislike Hiro, but I'm starting to find him...tiring.

As for Moonlight-hm, I might check it out, but I'm not a big Dohring fan in general. What are Church and Reaper about?

[identity profile] embers-log.livejournal.com 2007-09-30 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Oops, sorry... I meant two different shows 'Chuck' and 'Reaper'
'Chuck' is about an apathetic geek in a dead end job at Big Buy (big computers electronics store) who accidentally gets all of the secrets of the NSA and the CIA downloaded into his brain. Since these agencies are jealous of each other and won't share secrets they are useless (Adam Baldwin who was Jayne on Firefly plays the NSA agent, and you'll notice that this area of comedy makes 'Chuck' the anti-24 and anti-Alias), but Chuck knows their separate secrets and can combine them and actually be effective. I loved the pilot.

'Reaper' is about an apathetic geek in a dead end job at Big Store (something like that - it is a huge mega hardware store) who finds out on his 21st birthday that his parents had sold his soul to the devil. The Devil (who is very funny) shows up but is only asking him to collect escaped damned souls.... The first one in the pilot is a no brainer: an arsonist who had killed a lot of people in his life time has returned to re-burn all his old arson sites (which were rebuilt, one into an elementary school). The kid and his pal run around the hardware store making fire retardant outfits for themselves and manage to collect the evil damned soul guy.... It was very funny, and I'm sure they'll get into more morally confusing people in the future that he'll have to 'reap'.

I'm glad to hear that you don't entirely hate Hiro (who I really like, the actor was so funny & sweet at comic con, besides I think his character is starting to grow more), because [livejournal.com profile] liluv has gotten so that she can't stand seeing him.

moved?

[identity profile] embers-log.livejournal.com 2007-10-01 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
It just hit me that more comics are coming out soon (like this week & next week, for me to mail to you next week) but did you say you moved?
can you e-mail your new address to me (if you did move)?
thanks!

[identity profile] ishtar79.livejournal.com 2007-10-01 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't move! My mum did (she's been assigned to Albania), and I helped her with the packing and stuff, that's all. :)

Oh good to know, thanks.

I really love Ugly Betty :D. The trick to it, I think, is not taking it too seriously; it's a campy, campy show that's seriously a lot of fun, imo.

Stopped watching Grey's a while ago. Just got bored with it.

[identity profile] ishtar79.livejournal.com 2007-09-30 08:16 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I didn't mean I'm not watching Ugly Betty, guess I was unclear! I love the show! It's like an insane soap opera comedy.

[identity profile] nemesister.livejournal.com 2007-09-30 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Not reading the possible Heroes spoilers, I might get around to watch one of these days.

I'm planning to watch Life on Mars for some time now. Of course I haven't succeeded, so I can hardly rec. Dexter is probably next on my list, isn't it unpleasant? I am randomly watching the third season of Boston Legal, which is, I'm sure you know, Ally McBeal with James Spader. I do love James Spader, but there is hardly a reason to take this seriously either. (Doesn't seem to have a fandom ... Too much sex on the show stiffles the 'creativity'? Or people fail to see the hotness that is an old fat James Spader. Who knows.:P)

That's a very reasonable and supportable stance on torture!

[identity profile] ishtar79.livejournal.com 2007-10-01 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Dexter *is* unpleasant, but oh-so-compelling. I'd reccomend it, with reservations. I think it's *genius*, but it's on the graphic side, and therefore not for everyone. Oddly enough, I cannot stand horror and violence normally, but there's just something about it...

Marti deserves bad, bad things.

[identity profile] liluv.livejournal.com 2007-10-06 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
I am late with my reply... Sigh.

Heroes premiere didn´t exactly take my breath away either. I was glad both Petrellis were alive, this was actually the reason I watched it: to see how they are brought back.

And I am beyond bored with Hiro. I was bored in the last episodes last season, now I find his scenes unwatchable. I skipped them.

And the new Heroes? Oh my, this High School boy was so predictable. And the couple somewhere in South America bored me so that I skipped their scenes too. So I don´t even know what their story is.

I probably won´t keep watching. I was bored most of the time and as interesting as the sexy chemistry between the two brothers is- it doesn´t keeps me on hooked.

[identity profile] ishtar79.livejournal.com 2007-10-06 09:14 am (UTC)(link)
I like the Petrellis too. And I like the Benetts. But I agree, Heroes has definitely gotten more boring, and the new brother and sister seem like such a yawnfest.

I'll still be watching, but I'm definitely more of a casual viewer.
