It's so weird that Charles can't explain to Hope his decision to call his first students "gifted youngsters". It's pretty simple - most of people had no idea that mutants even existed back then and nobody - even Xavier - could have an idea how many of them would be born. People with mutant powers had to deal with fear, self-hate and tremendous social pressure and the thought that it was not a curse that they are "gifted" with a talent they should use was in fact a great blessing.
Maybe Hope is really the hope for mutants but she doesn't understand that the times have changed - and almost the whole progress in mutants - humans relationship happened thanks to Xavier and other mutant rights activists. And that "we're all humans" policy sounds very nice but overlooks the fact that people who are mutants have to learn how to control their powers - and it's a responsibility "normal" people don't have to bear. The gift/curse still exists, there will always be people who need help BECAUSE they are mutants and thank god that someone like Xavier exists.

Sorry for the rant ^^''' I just really like Professor X, have always liked him and don't like to see him treated like that...
