Totally agree with everything here. I've gotten really annoyed at the way some people (who hate it) character his relationship with Lumen. I almost feel like it's amazing I didn't think of this before. I mean, Dexter's always trying to connect with one person and then it turns out he can't, but a victim he saved is so obviously and yet I'd never thought of it. And yet even so I loved her. There were a lot of parallels--Lumen/Deb as former victims, Deb/Quinn as cops doing things they were ashamed of, Dexter/Deb working out their feelings about past experiences through this one, Cody/Dexter feeling better by helping out other troubled people.
